If you are a console gamer you know how frustrating it is to have a game that you enjoy playing everday become unusable because of a simple scratch. I can remember years ago when I would have a disc go bad in my PC I could contact the software publisher and for a few dollars shipping and handling they would send me a new disc. This is just not true any longer.

My disc got one scratch and could not be used

Of course everyone knows how great Halo is. I definitely enjoyed that game more than most. For hours I played day after day. Then one morning I went to play and halfway through the load screen it locked up and told me the disc was unusable. No problem I thought. I'll just contact Microsoft and ask them to send me out a replacement disc. Couldn't cost me more than $5 or $10. But when I got on the phone with Microsoft's technical support I was very dissapointed in their reply. "You must buy a new copy" was the only answer I got. No discount. No coupon in the mail. Just too bad for you... buy a new one for $50 or $60!!!!

The importance of backing up games

This lesson taught me that I could not rely on the publishers to help even though I had paid full price for the game. Given that these DVD and BluRay discs are so easily scratched it was obviously necessary to start looking for alternatives.

What I found is that for just a few dollars I could get quality backup software that would backup my games and not just for my Xbox 360.
